Solutions for the Future of Sustainable Aviation

1st October 2025

How do we design the airport of the future? And what does it take to achieve a sustainable transition? This includes the implementation and targeted use of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) to minimize environmental impact, as well as renewable energy sources and smartening of airport energy supply and use.

The EU project ALIGHT has found answers and will present its results at a Final Conference in Copenhagen on October 1, 2025.

During the conference, we will present project results, share key findings, and explore their impacts.

  • Through large-scale demonstrations at Copenhagen Airport, ALIGHT has developed innovative approaches to aid in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and support international climate targets towards a bold vision for decarbonized airports by 2050.

  • This will be the official launch of a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) about SAF, developed in the framework of CEN (EU Standardization Organization) under the leadership of ALIGHT. This standardization deliverable has been drafted with 80+ registered experts from 20+ countries, including outside Europe.

  • You will get an introduction to a replication toolbox we have developed, where the entire industry can find inspiration and guidance within various topics and challenges tackled in ALIGHT, with the purpose of supporting knowledge transfer and enhancing sustainability practices within the aviation industry. There will also be an opportunity to get hands-on experience with the newly developed online toolbox at the conference.

  • The ALIGHT partnership airports in Copenhagen, Vilnius, and Rome will present experiences and lessons learned from the project and how ALIGHT has influenced their sustainability efforts, while the upcoming airport in Warsaw will share how ALIGHT has significantly impacted the planning and design of the new airport currently under construction.

The day will conclude with a networking event with light refreshments and beverages, where participants can meet in relevant groups to discuss the various results and how we can continue working together toward sustainable aviation.

Our EU sister projects, OLGA, STARGATE, and TULIPS, which we collaborate with to find solutions for sustainable aviation, will also participate.
